Overlapping Toes

Introduction

There are many foot conditions that can lead to over lapping toes. This condion can affect patinets of all ages and can affect any toe.

Cause

The primary cause of overlapping toes is bunions . Hallux Abducto Valgus (bunions) can occur due to poor footwaer, rhematoid arthtitis or inherdiatry factors. It is often characrtised by overlapping of the first toe onto the second toe or the second toe onto the third toe. Other causes of overlapping toes are hammer toes, claw toes, arthritis and injury to the toes.

Treatment and Prevention

Do not ingore the condition as overlapping toes can lead to painful corns and even ulcers.

Footwear must be evaluted. Shoes with a high, broad toe box (toe area) are recommended for people suffering from overlapping toes.

Forefoot supports such as gel toe straighteners, gel toe caps and toe combs are often recommended to keep overlapping toes apart. These effective devices are designed to reduce friction to help relieve the discomfort.

Silicone Toe Separator

A corrective shield between first and second toes, the extra soft toe spreader effectively prevents deviation of the big toe and prevents overlapping of the toes.
