I have been experiencing numbness and tingling in my big toe and the toe next to it.  If I press on my foot just below the toes the tingling gets worse.  The numbness is present when I wake up in the morning but will sometimes decrease during the day.  What could be the cause of this and any recommendations for treatment? Thank you. Catheine

It could be one of many possible conditions. It may be worth have a blood test for diabetes as your symptoms are often typical with diabetic patients. Other conditions include raynaulds disease, vitamin deficiency, biomechanical (walking) causing impact on nerves of toe (need insoles), smoking, circulatory problems, etc, etc. You need to visit your doctor first and then a podiatrist.
