Hi Dr. Foot.  I have always had on and off athlete's foot problems, since I was a kid.  Using a creme like lamisil has always worked, and the athlete's foot goes away after a few weeks.  My problem is, unless I go barefoot, or wear sandals, it always comes back.  But I have to wear shoes, I can't wear sandals all the time.  So I have gotten in the habit of putting creme on every day, even though I don't have the athlete's foot right now.  This is the only way I have been able to keep it from coming back.

Is it unhealthy ?  I know on the medicine it says to use for 4 weeks.  Is it dangerous if I am going to put the creme on my feet every day for the rest of my life ?  I'm concerned about what is in these products and the fact I'm putting them in my bloodstream every day.  Thank you,

Jon

The cream is not designed for use everyday. You have to address the underlying cause of your athlete’s foot. Are your feet sweaty? Types of socks you wear allow moisture to release? Have you changed your shoes and noticed a difference? If you have to use a preventative treatment everyday then you could use mycil or daktrain foot powder, but it is advisable to seek the reason why you are prone to athlete’s foot.

thanks so much for your reply.  yeah, I guess my feet sweat alot.  I just wear regular cotton socks.  but my feet sweating is not going to change.  well, powder does seem to help.  but I don't like it.  I have used powder, but I have to use ALOT of powder, putting alot in everytime i put shoes on, and it doesn't look so great when white powder is leaking out of my black leather shoes and getting all over the outside of them.  it leaks out the seams, you know.  and it doesn't always work all that great anyway actually.  I have gotten the athlete's foot even when I am using powder regularly.  the cremes work best.

changing my shoes doesn't make a difference.  I have had athlete's foot problems for 20 years.  it always comes back at some point, if I'm wearing shoes every day.  whether I have new shoes or not.

I realize the cremes are not designed to be used every day.  Is it unhealthy ?  Can I do it anyway, or am putting myself in some sort of danger ?  If it is dangerous, is there some sort of naturally safe creme that is safe to use every day ?

thank you,

Jon

Try callsuan fresh from our shopping section or you can go for a stronger product called Drichlor which is available from pharmacies. Both of these products stop sweaty feet. The long term use of lamisil cream may weaken the skin, however I’ve been searching for any studies on this topic and it has proved inconclusive. There is no definitive answer to the question of long term use. Have you tried lemongrass oil which is a natural oil that can cure athlete’s foot?
