I have pain in the top part of my foot. It hurts when I stand on my toes, but not always. When I am on my feet for long periods of time and then I stop and put my feet up, it gets worse. It tends to throb and burn when I am just sitting most of the time, but on occassion I get shooting pains though my feet and toes. However, when I stand up after resting, I can hardly walk. The pain in the top of my foot is incredible. I have no pain in the bottoms of my feet, only the top. What could be causing this, and what can I do about it. I would appreciate any insite you could give me. Thanks...

This sounds like tendonitis of one of the dorsal (top of the foot) ligaments. All the symptoms are classical tendonitis symptoms. You should treat this like any other injury and use R.I.C.E , Rest, Elevation, Compression (foot support) and Ice (ice the area affected 3-4 times a day for 5-10 minutes) The use of anti-inflammatory tablets and gels will help (ask your doctor for further information) you need insoles in your shoes to support your foot and prevent this from occurring again.

Recovering from a stress fracture of the second metarsal very near the toes, I apparently overcompensated and have hurt something in the top, outside part of the foot back near the ankle. I can't seem to find anything written about that part of the foot (outside, toward the ankle). I have an appointment with an orthopedic, but can't get in for two more weeks. Any thoughts on what this might be?

You may have damaged the cubiod or the peroneus tertius tendon.

You may need x-rays to confirm you have not damaged the cubiod bone. If if is ligament damage to the peroneus tertius tendon then click below and view foot wraps and insoles.
