Hi Doc. I have had severe heel pain now for about six years. It came on after I used to carry shopping in Rucksac (60 lb plus) and dig in on left heel. The pain is at back of lower heel, though 'compensation' means the rest of my feet get sore too. Even resting heel on floor is painful, like someone's hit it with larger lump hammer! My GP diagnosed Plantarfaciitis and Pronation (inwards) and I "eventually" got to clinic. Got shoo inserts (made of what feels like steel!!!) and they correct pronation but do sod all for PF. I have tried various heel inserts, gels, even special shaped Heel-that-pain from USA. None work. Your experienced and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, you have tried most of the conservative options. It may be worth trying some comfortable insoles to correct pronation which also feature a heel pad. Also have tried exercises to strengthen and stretch the fascia? Chronic heel pain is very hard to cure and you may have to turn to surgery to reduce the inflammation the planter fascia.

Thanks for reply. Yes, I have tried most options. I exercise regularly, at least six times per week plus what I do at home: I teach Taiji and Gongfu, etc; I had wondered if combination of yoga stretches and the 'big bag' may have induced the symptoms.
However, I am willing to try whichever insoles you reccommend. Please let me know and I'll purchase them today. If they don't work then I'll go see about getting a "heel transplant" Thanks.

The Sports Insoles have proved very successful in treating heel pain < Sports Insoles > Do you ice the heel at night? Try and ice the heel at night for 15-20 minutes for 14 days. Also have tried Ibuleve Gel which reduces swelling and inflammation (available from pharmacy). The stretches should be done 4-5 days a day (if it is painful then stop as you may aggravate the heel). Also Gongfu is a form of Kung Fu (I think!?) if so then martial artists are susceptible to planter fascitiis. The kicks (especially spinning or jumping kicks) and sudden movements can lead to the planter fascia being aggravated. Do you wear kung fu shoes when you train or do you it barefooted? It may be a good idea to take a break for two week and monitor your foot condition.
