ok let me give the hisory im 16 the problem first came up when i was 13-14 i had a bad habit of biting my finger nails one day i run out of finger nails so i moved on to my toes (not a smart move) i would get my teeth under the inside corner of the nail and rip it back to the outside of the nail kinda like peeling the nail (Big Toe)

now i first notice i have a prob when i saw the flesh had grown and is a mm above where the nail is and then started to ingrow into the inside corner i stoped it from ingrowing by biting the nail out this happened over and over it got its worst when i was 15 (16 Months ago)  i could not get my shoes on and if my toe even brushed up against anyhthing i would be in agony i used my head for the First time and went to see my GP she give me some Antibiotics i asked what to do about the nail she said goto A&E they said goto GP and she said goto A&E so i went to a private chiropodist she removed the ingrowing Nail much like i had been doing and then put some acid my the bubble on the inside of my Toe. problem soved or so i though now i seem to be in the boat not as painfull as it was i know i need to go back to the chiropodist but will i have to do this for the rest of my life?

this may not be an option but if i had the whole nail removed would it grow back over the skin or would the skin still be above the nail

this may not be an option either but reading trough the forums there has been some talk of haveing the root removed will the nail ever come back' If no will that have any effect on my ability to walk run and so on

Visit the chiropodist and ask her to explain what a PNA is and if phenol is used in the nail bed to stop subsequent nail growth. If you have the side of the nail removed you can still carry on walking, running and all other activities.
