I am feeling desperate experiencing foot pain most of the time now.  Until Christmas I used to jog & attend circuit training sessions.  In February I stopped all that because of plantar fasciitis in my left foot, and I saw a physio who then referred me to a Podiatrist.  He made me orthotics but they didn't help.  He then 'strengthened' them, and I've worn them full-time for 6 months.  Not only is my left foot worse than ever, but I also have pain throughout both my arches.  During this time I have done some exercises to stretch my whole leg, and used ice sometimes.  I've been back to a physio, and had ultra sound & acupuncture, but still no improvement.  The podiatrist now recommends cortisone injections. Last week my GP prescribed Voltarol Rapid, which has not helped, and gave me side effects.  Please, please, please can you help?

I feel for you as you have tried almost everything! Voltarol Rapid is a VERY strong painkiller and can give you an upset stomach also the cortisone injections only provide temporary relief. From the description of your orthotics they may be too rigid which can lead to further arch pain. Orthotics need to be flexible, other treatment plans include silicone insoles, silicone heel cups and a planter fascia night splint. Ultrasound and laser therapy are very good for some patients. Ice, exercises and acupuncture can treat the symptoms but not the cause. I feel you should ask to be referred to a podiatric surgical consultant for possible surgical treatment. It is done via day surgery has proved very successful.
