Broke the outer two metatarsals on tuesday in a volleyball foot twist. Was noticing some of your other posts (one that mentioned 5th metatarsal.) Would the one's I broke (on the smallest little piggy side) be 1 and 2 or 4 and 5? Also didn't get much advice as to when to attempt to start putting weight on it. I'm in an aircast now.
Thanks.

The smallest toe is the fifth metatarsal and is the one that is most often fractured. Healing times are between 8-12 weeks for full recovery.

Thanks for the reply. Been in an aircast for four weeks now. Went in for my 3-week folllowup and new xrays revealed that no healing had taken place. In fact the gap in the break had widened. Like I mentioned before, I wasn't given a great deal of instruction so after I discovered I could walk in my aircast without any pain (just a few days after breaking it) I checked in with the Dr.'s office. Doc wasn't available and nurse said she'd get back with me. Never heard a thing. So after walking on it for about 2 1/2 weeks, it hadn't healed at all. New doc put me on non-weight bearing for another four weeks in an attempt to avoid surgery. Fifth metatarsal is a (in laymen's terms) Jones fracture.
