I had my Neuroma removed on April 20th.
My Surgeon really didn't want to operate without trying to rectify the neuroma first, so I was referred to a Podiatrist who made casts of my feet and had orthotics made, which greatly improved the pain in my knees, but did nothing for the neuroma !, so it was decided to remove it.
After the operation, I was told that the Neuroma was very large and was causing havoc in my foot so it was a good job it had come out, I am left with a very neat 1.25" scar between my 2nd and 3rd toes. Instantly, all of the pain that I was in has gone, I had a buzzing pain all the way up the right side of my body which had me in agony at times,it is bliss to be free from all of that.
What I was wondering, is, how long will it take for the nerves in my foot to recover ? they are buzzing about like bee's around a honey pot !!!, not an unpleasant feeling, but very strange, my 3rd toe is also still mishapen, will this return to normal ?
My surgeon did tell me that it depends on the individual as to how long total recover could be, but was just wondering if anyone on here could offer further advice.
Many thanks

| It will get better and the nerve activity decreases greatly in about two weaks and eventaully goes away. The numbness will remain where the nerve innervated the toes. Once in awhile I get a strange feeling in the area where the nerve was removed, it isn't painful, it feels like something is crawling on my skin. The remaining nerve is functional and I assume it is sometimes sending weird signals back to the brain. |
